The Human Impacts on Global Warming

Global Warming is perhaps the biggest concern our generation is experiencing. Its’ effects are obviously frightening and dramatically urgent. Even though often debated in global politics and the media, we can’t deny that the causes and effects of global warming are real, global and calculable.

Global warming is primarily a problem of excess of  carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere—which acts as a blanket or a cloak, by trapping heat and warming the planet. As we burn fossil fuels for energy or cut down and burn forests to create pastures and plantations, carbon gathers and stacks up in our atmosphere. Certain waste management and agricultural practices aggravate the problem by releasing other potent global warming gasses, such as methane and nitrous oxide. Scroll down to learn more about the various causes of global warming:

1.    Fossil Fuels
Burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas cause carbon overload and primarily cause Global Warming.

2.    Deforestation
By all means, deforestation in tropical rain forests to fulfill our appetite for wood and paper products and other commodities is a major cause of Global Warming.Forest remove and store CO2 and burning or cutting if trees add more CO2to the atmosphere that the sum total of all the cars and trucks worldwide.

3.    Mining
Mining operations lead to the release of more greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere.

4.    Methane Emission
Methane gas is a greenhouse gas which is also a cause of global warming. Methane is naturally found in soil. Digging up the ground for fossil fuels like coal, gas, biomass, and oil releases methane into the atmosphere. Landfills, where garbage is burned, are notorious for releasing methane gas but simply disturbing the ground for rice cultivation or farming livestock (manure) also facilitates the release of methane gas.

5.    Fertilizer Usage
There are countless farmlands across the Earth’s Land and think about the amount of fertilizer that is absorbed in the soil that in turn produces nitrous oxide. Nitrous oxide is 300 times more dangerous than Carbon Dioxide.EPA strongly condemns the use of fertilizers by the farming industry as it’s one of the leading causes of global warming.

6.    Humans
Overpopulation, Over consumption of food, demand for more transportation, etc. also contribute to Global Warming as more people means more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. At the end, the question is whether we humans want to shift the paradigm and start making personal decisions.

The true cause of global warming is our thoughtless attitude to Nature. Let’s emphasize on this: Not the others need to change, we must change ourselves. We can start to change our consciousness immediately. It is really only about our personal behavior, independent of what others do or don’t do.It’s time for a change!

Very important article, as climate change is a threat to the entire world and everything possible must be done to reduce it. The article fails to adequately consider the major impact of animal agriculture in releasing major amounts of methane, a very potent greenhouse gas.

Got something to say?
