Shoresh Jewish Environmental Programs

Rooted in Jewish wisdom and practice, Shoresh’s environmental programs respond to contemporary food and ecological issues. Through experiential education and action, Shoresh creates meaningful Jewish life and builds a more sustainable and inspired community. Shoresh means “root” in Hebrew – grounded by Canadian soil, Shoresh is helping community members get back to their Jewish roots! In 2009, Shoresh established the Kavanah Garden, a 1/4 acre organic educational garden that models Jewish agricultural laws and environmental ethics. In addition to our programs at the Kavanah Garden, Shoresh offers educational programs at various locations across the greater Toronto area, hosts an annual Jewish Food Conference downtown, runs multiple community supported agriculture sites, manages a production-oriented urban garden in downtown Toronto, AND is starting Bela Farm, a rural centre for sustainable land-based Judaism in Hillsburgh, Ontario!
