Isaac Mayer Wise Academy Eco-Village at the URJ Greene Family Camp
In 2012, the Isaac Mayer Wise Academy of Dallas and the Union for Reform Judaism Greene Family Camp (GFC) partnered to create an Eco-Village that expanded the camp’s existing Kibbutz program into a laboratory for providing innovative environmental education for the entire camp community. The Eco-Village encompasses the best of what camp offers: communal Jewish living and learning. In every aspect of the program, Jewish values and Jewish practice are at the forefront. From teaching campers Jewish concepts of caring for the land and its inhabitants to teaching about our agricultural heritage, the Eco-Village is a meaningful addition to the camp’s educational program. Furthermore, the tangible nature of the projects in which campers are engaged, provides a logical way to teach Jewish values, including building for the community and the reciprocal relationship between humankind and nature.
